Some answers were fairly close, none on the money. Left-handed people CAN play right-hand guitars - one example that these people obviously don't know is Jimi Hendrix. But in that sceanrio the controls on the guitar are in an inconvenient position, and you can't just replace the strings like peoople said because the nut is adjusted to the different gauges of the strings. That's why most companies have left-hand models that are the mirrored image of their right-hand counterparts, and sometimes they are a little more expensive, but more and more oftewn they cost the same.
Go to Ibanez.com, they have some pictures of LH guitars so you can look closely and see what the difference is.

The order of the strings. If you need a left hand guitar, but only have a right handed guitar, just reverse the order of the strings and retune. It might not be the ideal, but it will sound very close to the same.

The strings on each are located so that the top string is
the low note. One guitar can't be played by both a
right-handed strummer and a left-handed strummer.
One set of strings would be upside down.

Guitars are made for right handed people, left handers have to string the guitar the opposite way to normal. You can also buy left-handed guitars but they are very expensive because they have to be custom made. (I play classical guitar)

That's very obvious. It is harder to find a left handed guitar, but if you are a southpaw it's better than changing the strings.

I would think nothing except that you may have to tune it a little differently for either side. Just my thought, I don't know much about guitars.

The strings are just lined up in reverse order, that's all.
(Although some manufacturers like to also reverse the physical design as well!)
