I quickly left in shock w/my heart at the bottom of my stomoch. I was so appalled about the wah he bragged about this. That i called him back on my cell and called him a murderer. and that i was reporting him to the humane society. We just my word vs his ( which he will probably deny) is there anything legal i can do? Those poor innocent kittys. I love cats i have a cat i rescued. and i imagined this guy shooting him in the head. I bawled all teh way back to teh store. And when i arrived the my shift leader was on the phone w/this guys gf. and she was complaining how she felt violated that i * overheard* there convo! I may get fired over this. Can u believe it. I just want this person to have sum kind of punishment. Anyone know the legalities of a situation like this . Please help. Can they fire me?

Be careful not to get YOURSELF in any trouble. I know it's hard to resist taking action, as the thought of it drives you crazy. We all want to reach out and touch someone when we are motivated by these sub-humans and their lack of apathy. All of us have to remember to think before we act so we can do the most effective thing for the sake of the animals. I would have gone off by myself for a minute and screamed, cried, talked to GOD for a while and then said a prayer for the victims I just learned of. After I gained control of myself I would have evaluated my options calmly(remembering that if it is true I can't do anything for them now but I sure can try to make him answer for it and MAYBE help any future victims). People need to be patient and just as sneaky as these snakes are in order to avenge their victims. Where I live I would have called the County Humane Officer and by law he has to answer the complaint and check it out. This could lead him to the evidence that these creeps carelessly leave behind as they are taken by surprise(but since they knew you had overheard them they may have hurried to destroy the evidence). It also may alert the officer to a person with a prior offenders history and if not it would have atleast started a paper trail on this person that eventually may lead to an arrest. Armour yourself with gaining knowledge of any and all the resources available in your area and get involved with them. Get to know them and get them to know you. Familiarize yourself with the laws concerning animals (your local law library is open to the public and are very helpful). Become as important as you can in your local animal world. You won't feel as helpless in the future and you can dedicate your efforts to these 2 victims you never knew & maybe you'll get him yet. First of all, don't ever make any kind of personally attacking moves on these lawbreakers because they have probably been on the wrong side of the law so much that they know their rights inside and out. They could have had you arrested for telephone harrassment. I hope they didn't! DO SO RIGHT NOW if you haven't already, report it to the agency that you know that has to answer your complaint. Next, apologize to your boss (not for feeling the way you do but for how you handled it) or go get another job. Now on your own and secretively do your own thing. Be sneaky. Get as much information about these people as you can. Be casual. Find and talk to their enemies and maybe even thier friends(people love to talk). Keep a journal. Don't be obvious. You have to be like an undercover agent. Don't let anyone know your intentions and sometimes don't overextend your feelings for animals depending on who your talking to. Find out where the barn is. There may be more cats there and/or if the 2 were full grown females their may be kittens there. (Don't go there!!! Never put yourself in a compromising situation!) Give the person you reported it to a call for an update on his investigation and supply him with whatever information that could be helpful to him. Continue...continue... continue...keep your eyes and ears open and always think before you act that it won't get you in to trouble. Your no good to the animals if you"ve got problems! Good Luck! We all need it! PS-check this out in your area but the reporting agency cannot disclose who made the complaint. You could do this forever in your area and get alot of silent glory. They won't know who turned them in but you will. They are not worth confronting. Don't worry, GOD has special plans for them.

Hi - I absolutely feel for you - this is something that boils my blood!
Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do. You can report him, however you may not have his details if he is just a person you overheard, so firstly that puts a brake on any investigation. Any animal cruelty investigation takes a LONG time, and even with strong evidence the outcomes aren't always great. In Australia, inspectorates have little legal control and sadly, if the accused is "well-off" they can usually hire good lawyers and get off with a slap on the wrist.
However, I am sure it will make you feel better to report someone who is this sick and twisted, and it won't hurt to call your RSPCA (or other animal welfare control org, depending on where you are from!). They will be able to let you know what information you will need to supply etc etc, and if it wasn't for people like you dobbing in "people" ( I use the term loosely for scum) like him then we wouldn't be as advanced in reducing animal cruelty.
I hope this makes you feel a bit better, and hopefully even just a visit from an inspectorate might be enough to scare him out of it. The other thing you have to consider is that it could be all talk, and he has never actually acted this out, but trying to "impress" his mates.... Hopefully this really is the case but you never know....
Good luck and hopefully karma will bite him of the *** (perhaps he will get toxoplasmosis?!?)

Absolutely!! There are laws against cruelty against animals, and you should call the police! Whether they were strays or not, he had no right. If you know where that barn is, you should make sure the poor cats are still there as proof he did something wrong. Call the police and tell them what you heard and where this guy lives, and also you might be able to file a harrassment claim from them trying to get you fired for overhearing them.

I would definitely call your local ascpa and report the guy. Even if they can't do much based on a conversation you overheard- they will have the information on file- and who knows? Maybe somebody else has already reported the guy. Or if they start getting calls from people that their pets have been shot- they will have his name in their minds.

How bad do you want to hold on to your job? From my experience you probably could be fired based on the fact that you called the guy and- justifiably- in my opinion- read him off. It all may hinge on whether or not your boss is an animal lover. If push comes to shove quit before they fire you and try to get a good reference out of them.

You can get on the horn and call the spca or your local animal shelter and report them also contact your local cat rescue groups aether get the number from the local animal control or go on line for info on groups in your area also your local akc cat groups you may find that the laws in your area allow people to humanly exterminate unwanted animals that are on their private land.but still someone may know them personally like their work bosses exc.and they may fire them on the basis that thet they do unhumain act twords cats.As for your job well tell your boss you called and gave them your personal opinion not the sub storere but ask your boss is it is realy that big of a deal as to loosing a customer of such worth and if you persue this course of action against this man do it anonimously and on your own time.I wonder what sort of a sick girlfriend would not only endorse this sickos activitys but also go and call a complaint in about their feeling hurt by your over hearing their dirty secret-best of luck !!

You should have talked to the police instead of calling him on his cell phone. I would still recommend that you do, or your county Animal Control, regarding the cats. Don't know what, if anything, they can do, but maybe they can do something. At least they may be able to give you the legal side of things. Hopefully your manager is understanding.

for starters any boss that fires anyone for being protective of any living creature has no feelings themselves so i would do the same thing as you did as i love animals i have 14 cats and 3 kittens and if anyone was to hurt them in anyway they would have to pay for it through the legal ways its not fair on the animals as they are defenceless and people should treat them the way they would like to be treated and dont be so cruel to them

I would do something to his food next time and put the word out to only people you trust at work. Make postures, since you have his address report him, put a ad in the paper. Slap them xerox copies all over town. Known Kat Killer.

You may be fired on the bases of your phone call back to him and the name calling. Next time you suspect someone has done something wrong go to the authorities and let them deal with it
