I share the same opinion with you. My theory is that they ran out of ideas. All the horror seems to be coming from ghosts, spirits, etc. It's so predictable. The humour on the other hand, seems to have dried up.

Because 9 times out of 10, you are getting a watered down version of what was intended... Either the production company thought the movie was too long so they had vital scenes cut out of it. Or an idiot producer thought that it would be a better film if the they could figure out how to put a 80 foot tall metal spider in it. Or the director decides that the 'Batsuit' would be perfect if it only had nipples on it!?!
Basically, they rewrite, rework, and reformat movies to cater to the largest possible audience, dumbing it down, adding needless explosions & hokey CGI special effects, and putting 'big name' celebs in the movie for no reason other than to put a$$es in the seats at the theater.

The theory of re-doing old movies is half-correct, but the problem is a bigger scale issue.
We, like it or not, are part of a reality show world. Everything is reality or labeled as such. The only real reality in which we live is not entertaining to us anymore. It's our fault that we've become to a certain extent, desensitized.
New story lines are easy to come up with, but the intrigue in which we hold to them is the real issue. Shows that show reality we don't believe anymore and fantasies are not believable enough.
So, instead of looking for how good a movie is, look for the skill in which was invested in it. I don't know your job, but I could probably assume that sometimes your good and sometimes you suck.

They have ran out of good storylines. Every movie just tells the same old story again, and Shakespeare wrote it. Somebody need to develop some entirely new genre that will be entertaining and original.

Movie Ticket: $10
Popcorn: $5
Large Soda: $4.50 (You really wanted a medium but it's only 50 cents more)
Watch as seven people scream "Don't go in there!!!" when you know the person going to investigate the strange noise in the dark basement is dead anyway: worthless
The prosecution rests.

Good movies come in waves. You may have to wait a while before the next good movie is made, but be patient. It will happen.
