Are the 80's Porsche 924 still realible cars today?
What I mean is can you actually drive them and take care of them with cump's change? Please if you can tell me about how much is it to maintain every single thing on a 924 a year? Also can they be driven as daily drivers, because I love Porsche's but I just want one and I can get a 30-40k Porsche but I just want to spend 5k or less on one, so I can have a Porsche, but still treat it as if it were a crappy kick around car and never worry about it. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!!

Unfortunately Porsche 924's have reached the point where repairing them is more expensive than the worth of the car. If you are lucky enough to find one in nice shape, and are able to do your own work, then yes, they are reliable and parts can be found cheap on eBay.
While 944's are in the same boat as 924's in the repairing part, they are much better cars, faster, better equipped and easy to find parts for. The next step up, the 928 is a wallet drainer of epic proportions.

But I guess the bottom line is, if you want a cheap reliable car, Porsche might not be the best place to look. Doing your own work helps a lot.

The way to go on the 924 is the 924S, which came out in like 1986...all the mechanics of the 944 in a 924 body/shell.

I have had both 924 and 944 Both of the cars had there problems but It depends on what your buying. If your buying grandmas old sports car then you could assume your getting a good car. Then you have the speed freaks and well you know your going to get a ragged out junker. Just think about it. There is no way of knowing how much to maintain one. You could go to a big auto parts website (autozone.com) and look at what parts cost to get an idea

At 5K you are not going to find one that has been properly cared for, and the maintenance and repairs are going to eat you alive. May I suggest a 280Z? They are just as much fun, more reliable, and parts and repairs are much cheaper.
