The duel core will be able to process more concurrent threads of info.. that is to say that if you have 2 or more programs running at the same time the processor will cope better. If your after pure speed in a single process program (such as games) than the single core will out perform the duel purely because it has a faster clock speed.

If I were you I would be going for the core 2 duo's as appose to the Pentium d's as although the clock speed is slower it uses a different cpu architecture so they are significantly quicker.

Dual core 2.8ghz. Don;t be fooled by the numbers, the dual core has just what the name implies (a 2 core processor), compared to the P4 (a single core processor).

It the P4 of course your thinking that it is a single core but with the Hyper threading technology, it can work faster

Core2Duo is a better choice... also the E6800 at 2.93 is a little expensive..u can get a better deal with a E6600 at 2.66Ghz and u wont see a very big improvement. Anddddd u can always o/c it :) they tend to support alot of it.

From those two... the DualCore wins but i would go with the C2D anyway.
