Laughter causes the body to release chemicals in the brain, called endorphins. These make you feel good. After they are used up the brain goes in to a slight withdrawal period.

It may happen, if the laughter is on the basis of an artificial and temporary issues which does not have real worth.

Inner soul realises that the laugh has no real meaning and it signals that we are on the false foundation and so after the laugh also, they may trigger the feelings of low esteem

There's a finding, I think, that the same brain centers are stimulated when we cry and when we laugh. Crying and laughing may even sound the same sometimes, and achieve the same effect of relieving a person of negative emotions.

Given that, it's actually easier to make a person laugh or cry uncontrollably after sobbing or laughing hysterically. Try it. Funny!

because the laughter is covering something up, or it reminds them of a time before everything turned to crap

because they regret and feel nostalgy about it - it passed that moment of joy and people know and feel in their subconciousness it might not happen again so they feel sad bout that
