I have read the Patriot Act, and from what I can gather and comprehend, it is a loophole to our 4th Amendment Rights. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

I wouldn't call it just a loophole--it's a blatant rejection of our 4th Amendment.

Well, I think the answer to that question would depend on your own political believes. Several sections of the original Patriot Act were striken down by the Federal Courts as unconstitutional. But, to not believe in the Patriot Act would then mean you call into question the current White House administration. Congress, because the first Patriot Act passed 98-1 in the Senate and 357-66 in the House. It was renewed in 2006 with a vote of 89-11 in the Senate and 280-138 in the House. It had overwhelming support from both parties. Lastly, you would have to believe the Supreme Court is also biased in their inaction to strike down the Patriot Act.

The quote by Benjamin Franklin is an awesome quote, but you would have to wonder if it fits this situation. The quote deals with given up essential liberties for TEMPORARY secruity. One can easily argue that the Patriot Act is needed for long term national secruity.
