Normally, the DVD player can play either +DVD or -DVD disks. The computer DVD player may be one that only plays one type. If it is a -DVD player it can not play +DVD disks, and vice-versa. You must have an old computer. The newer DVD drives now play either format.

More than likely the lazer reader is better on your home DVD player than the DVD-ROM reader is on your computer!
