We're travelling to Cape Town, South Africa in Dec. '07 & Jan. '08. There is supposedly a big "festival" on 1/1 & 1/2. Is it safe? We're caucasian, but love all races! Will we be happily included in the festivities? Is it a black celebration only? Any details you might know would be great. (No guesses, please). Someone that has been there would be ideal.
Thanks!

This "big festival" you are talking about is called Kaapse Klopse. It happens in Cape Town on New Year's Eve of every year, and goes until the 2nd day of January. Kaapse Klopse means Cape Troupes, or literally means Cape Clubs. There's history attached to this festival,... something to do with slavery,,I'm not sure. It's a well-organised festival and I have never heard of any criminal acts taking place during the proceeding of the festival. Blacks??? It's basically not something for Blacks only, and infact it is mostly attended by Afrikaans-speaking Whites, and Coloureds(mixed race). This event didn't take place last year (or beginning of this yr), but hopefully it will be there end of this year.
