If you ARE already pregnant your doctor is the one who can recommend the safest method to relieve this problem. Every woman, and every pregnancy, is different.

You may be able to take a laxative, or an enema may be the best bet for you if there are issues no one here on Yahoo! Answers knows about.

Please contact your doctor for the safest method for you, and your baby.

If you're NOT pregnant but trying then I don't know how that is a problem. Laxatives aren't the best method, a diet with fruits and vegetables and some fiber like oatmeal are better.

Personally, when I go off a sensible diet and end up with constipation I'd rather get the old-fashioned enema bag out with warm, clean water. Things seem to go back to normal quicker and I don't get rebound (happens again) constipation like I do with laxatives.

However, if this is a recurring (happens all the time) problem again, see the doctor for the best recommendation for your physical problem.

Good luck!

It is important for pregnant women to do all they can to avoid becoming constipated. Constipation in pregnancy not only has the usual symptoms of bloating, irregular bowel movements, straining, hard compacted stools and painful elimination of stools, but it can have a host of new problems because of everything else going on. One of the best ways to naturally treat constipation is to drink eight to ten 8-oz. glasses of purified water throughout the day (a little more because you’re hydrating for two). Water lubricates the digestive tract and is required by the body so waste material can absorb the water, which also makes it easier to pass. Fiber, from what I understand laxatives can do harm but fiber can really help just make sure its OK with the doctor. Also you could try eating lots of veggies and make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Leafy greens are the best thing and prune juice.

Prune juice. Dried apricots (I once ate about 10 of them not knowing they have a laxative effect--and wow!) There are lots of other natural ways to get things moving...

My doctor says as long as they dont go three days its normal. But if they seem to be in pain use a Babylax suppository or put a teaspoon of karo syrup in their bottles or just make a bottle with water/karo syrup.

You are allowed to take laxatives while you are pregnant, so I don't see why you would not be able to take them before you get pregnant.

R U sure you're drinking enough water? ( 2 quarts a day. Fill a container and make it gone by the end of the day!) Eating lots of fruit? (Applesauce works for me.) Remember, cheese and chocolate will slow you down. (Aw, shucks!)
