I just got my laptop in Dec and now it's telling me there's some updates. Should I update it? Is it better for my computer? Is it safe? Will it take up too much space?

This is the three things my computer asks me if I want to update:

MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB927978)
Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 for Windows XP
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool February 2007

Yes! These are necessary "Critical" Security updates that keeps your computer Safe!!!
Download them and update! Windows puts out updates & security patches every month around the 14th of each month...so always install them...they patch holes in Windows to keep Hackers out!

I would do the security updates but be ready for a big change if you update exp 7.0.

Don't you qualify for a free VISTA update with a computer that new?

Those are all really good programs and they are very useful. and they don't really take up all that much space. You said your running Windows XP, so you should have about an 80Gig hard drive, if you have a fairly new computer. You'll be fine. Hope this helps.

you update those. Go to CONTROL PANEL, then click AUTOMATIC UPDATES. Now I presume on your laptop you shut it down completely. Well what you can do is check the 2d box down to install updates and let you know. That way updates will download as soon as they are available. But when the window comes on to state updates are available, let them download.

Yes your computer was programmed and keeps those programs in its memory and it know from the programming that certain things need to be done. And it will keep your computer in tip top shape. You can even get programs that will pop up and do their thing at the presecribed time. And follow the computers instructions and you will learn and benefit from them.
