ghost in the shell--> a term used to describe a soul like figure inside of machines.
another way of asking this is, do you believe that computers are living and developing personalities? Remember computers are in cars, your PC, Mac, anything automated.

Personally I believe that right now the ghost in the shell is at the evolutionary equivallent of bacteria, but not a rock.

Remember, I think, therefore I am.

I disagree with the fact that our machines our developing ghosts of their own. A.I. has not come far enough yet. So when you said that it is the evolutionary equivalent of a bacteria, then that is correct. But I do believe that one day, it will be possible to have cybernetic bodies. Look at how far technology has advanced. We can't imagine life without the internet, but it is only about 10 years old. Now life is almost dependent on this technology. We can already create advanced prosthetics. i bet that we will see the first cybernetic bodies in this lifetime. I hope.

You have a point and I wonder at times cause it seems my computer hates me most days. Either it is overheating or locking up on me. Maybe it is going through the menopause! Either way, I do not see computers evolving into intelligent beings such as ourselves but if I am ever proved wrong the first thing I am going to do is get this here computer to go do dishes and then smirk as it fries itself!

I believe the Ghost in the Shell insofar as there are strange occurrences and oddities that happen with computers that cannot be explained.
Is that life? I wouldn't venture so far out as to say that it is at this time.

The day I hear a computer start complaining of being fat, suffering depression, feeling love, showing signs of mental illness and start talking about wanting to commit suicide is the day that I will ever believe any computer will have a personality of its own.
