I grew up in a rural home with bats in the attic, and they would get into the house a couple times a year. I actually had one hit my chest when I was just a kid, and now, bats are about the only creature out there that I have a problem with. Although I do realize the benefits of having them around your property, I just don't want them in my house. Ewww!

I recall after I bought my current house, for the first three years I had one, only one, every Summer. I got him out three different ways. The first year, I threw some towels on him and he hit the floor quickly. I then scooped him up and threw him outside. Not wanting to hurt the bat, I was careful (they are pretty weak really). The second year, I had one (probably the same one as the year before) on the kitchen ceiling. My neighbor came over with a long hollow metal pipe and put it over the bat. They like dark places so the bat crawled right in there and was taken outside. The third year, my other neighbor came over and the bat was on the curtain. He just took a towel and grabbed the bat and took him outside. One thing about a bat is that when they first get in, they freak out and fly everywhere. Just keep an eye on them and they will land someone for good then you can get them out. I hope this helps. They will not get in your hair and very few have rabies. There are many old wive's tales out there.

Once when I lived in Singapore a little yellow bat with black spots flew into the house and got disoriented by the ceiling fan with lights. I threw a towel over it and released it outside. Bats consume massive quantities of mosquitos and other insects so they are very beneficial

Yes, the little bugger was hiding on top of the bedroom tray ceiling. Because we slept in the room with the bat, protocol required that we got rabies shots (bats in Alberta here carry the rabies virus).

Oh my gosh! When we moved in, my dad walked into the crawlspace and wee heard a *SCREEEE!!!* type sound. It was a bat that he'd stepped on. Scared the crap outta me! The thing started hissing. It was so scary. And yet I love Batman. Hmm...

No, but I once had a bird fly into my classroom and it went crazy trying to find a way out! That incident scared the heck out of me!

No, I've never had one get in my house, even though I have seen them flying around. One did try to fly in the car with me and my family one time.
