it's limbo often described as between heaven and hell, heaven is nice, hell is bad, purgatory is nothing, stale boring nothingness. You usually wait there for a final desicion if you're on the line or maybe god will make you wait outside and eventually allow you into heaven.
Non believers and tribal "barbarians" are said to go to limbo too and stay there.
In one way it's to purge (purgatory) you of sin before some are allowed to heaven

Purgatory is where all those in question have to sit and wait until one or the other decide to take them. Most are lost souls who messed up in this world and now no after world is welcoming them with open arms.

I think purgatory is where people atone for their sins by undergoing some sort of suffering or purification before they enter heaven. If I'm not wrong it's a Catholic belief.

There are 2 circumstances in the Bible the place Jesus is acused of blasphemy by ability of the Pharisees. in the 1st, Jesus claimed the flexibility to forgive sins. in the 2d, He claimed equality with God. in accordance to scripture, blasphemy is claiming divine attributes. In our day, blasphemy has taken on a diverse meaning. maximum would say that's taking the Lords's call in ineffective.

well, in the catholic religion...it's where you go first...to...I don't want to say pay..more like sweat....off your sins who are not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions of mortal life...but that is a view. I believe he is not.
