I understand every person that can say that they are., because I was and I know how horrible it feels to be called and classified as ""emo"" it hurts. if u can avoid it. do it please.

i know that emo originated in the 80's (with bands like fugazi etc) but now it's kinda mass marketed to being more about the dress style and music..
i suppose there's grunge before it and punk before that.. same way skaters took over the way people dressed..
so to answer it, it's kinda just what feels good right now for that group.. fitting in, dressing differently listening to the music.. all is good
plus: my aunt says ' you never see an old emo' when relatives are worried about my niece..

Emo-emotional
A type of people that wants everyone to feel sorry for them because mommy won't give them allowance, so they need to cut themselves over it.
The music sang for emos just makes them feel more sorry for themselves, and makes life seem so horrible.
Come on, seriously. Quit being depressed over stupid crap, and quit cutting yourself to make others feel sorry for you, cutting is stupid.
I understand some people really are having hard lives, but they don't call themselves "emo", they call themselves depressed, and don't turn it into a fad! Depression is a very real illness, quit making games out of it!

Emo, short for emotional.
Kida labeled "emo" are usually
dressed in black & are also labeled "goths & punks"
These kids are depressed & listen to music about
"how life sucks" & "cut themselves"
Though people take this WAY out of proportion.

Teenagers with rock mullets, boys in girls pants, pathetic band names, black eyeliner, the death of real music and a style that resemble what my mother wore in the 80's. It's a bunch or supposedly "dark" kids that will look back like we all do and say "what the f was I thinking?"
I was a raver, I know all too well.

great music, eyeliner, good fashion sense but not a whole outfit of black maybe a hint of white like a white belt with studs or a pinstripe but some of my friends are emo and they wear orange and black and tight clothes but then somedays they wear baggy clothes they have mood swings and somedays they sleep in class but they are not all bad

I've always felt "Popular" by Nada Surf epitomized the sub-genre of EMO.
