Like writing down thoughts and what happened earlier in the day and what will happen etc. How exactly does it help?

helps to remember things--- also to note things that need to be done ---good ideas can also be recorded---keeping a record of healthy eating and how to improve on it-----rewarding and encouraging yourself for good behaviour---suggestions on how you could and should do things better ----generally being kinder and more loving----heck you may even begin to like yourself a bit more and become more organised and helpful by keeping a record and thinking of the world around......

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that it's NOT a good idea to internalize your feelings. Getting them out and talking about them, whether good, bad, or sad, is therapeutic for you. Just writing it down on paper and getting it out of your head often helps. Plus, seeing it on paper sometimes reveals a new perspective on your feelings that you may not have seen before.

I've heard that, if you have a difficult time talking about your feelings and also feel weird about writing them down that you should write in a journal and sort of "pretend" that you are writing to a friend who is far, far away and tellin them/confiding in them regarding everything in your life.

Diaries help you learn to express your feelings in words.. so does poetry..hehe. Some people keep diaries because they want to remember what happened on a certain day at a certain time, etc.

for most people, it helps to get your thoughts out clearer if you write them down, things and details that you may not have necessarily noticed during the day may come out in your writing. you can express yourself a little more if you're writing down what you feel. i keep a journal, when i write in it about something that's bothering me, or something's that's on my mind, it helps me to resolve whatever issue i have going on.

IT helps you reflect, let out some steam. Possibly take care of something that is bothering you. It wont help everyone so if you dont like it dont write

I don't know if it really helps. But its good to go back and read what was happening in your life at that time.
