If it is a Window's machine and the drive works normally as a data drive, it may have the auto-run turned off. This option will prevent the computer from automatically playing disks when inserted. You would need to open the correct application (media player for example) and play the disk manually.

Otherwise, you can turn the auto-play functionality back on.

Go to control panel. Click on system,Then device manager. Then click on DVD/CD ROM drives.It will tell you if device is working properly.My guess is that you need a new DVD/CD drive.They are super easy to put in. 10 Minutes tops.If your unsure how to do it do a google search for install DVD drives.Make sure in this dry weather you ground yourself before you touch anything inside your case.Link below has walk through.

Open my computer.
If the cd icon is in my computer, the drive is installed correctly and the laser in your optical drive probably went out.
if not, you have some issues. Can always try a trick I once learned. click on start, goto run, type in regedit

goto HKEY_current_config
system
currentcontrolset

now delete the enum key. Restart and boom, cd drive is back

R click on mycomp, go to properties Hardware and device manager tap this should tell yo uif thet is an issue w/ the drive I's probably dead.
