During the course of Bernie Williams career the Yankees have paid him some $100 million dollars in contract money. I'd hardly say that the Yankees hosed him. Baseball, as great as it is, is still a business. I'd love to see Bernie do the farewell tour but unless something drastic happens to the Yankee lineup I'm afraid that won't happen.

We are learning with each passing season that Brian Cashman is not the super genius everyone thought he was. He's made some really sour deals these past few years so we will see about Bernie.

I for one would hate to see Bernie in another uniform. He is a Yankee. There are certain players that should only be connected to one team. Bernie is one of those players.

I'm a Mets fan and even I don't believe the Yanks are "hosing" Bernie Williams. He's been paid over 100 million dollars in his tenure with the yanks and he was always treated with respect and admiration by the organization and the fans. The fact is that his body has simply broken down, he has 2 bad shoulders etc. He's also a defensive liablity in CF so it's time to move on and give the new kids a chance. Don't feel too bad for him though, he's 37 y/o, a multi-millionare and is treated like a god in Puerto Rico. We should all be "hosed" like Bernie Williams.

They're not "Hosing" Bernie. Their outfield is stoked with talented younger players with Melky Cabrera as the forth. he was invited to spring training by Torre and Can make the team as a reserve. But he has to show up as a minor league invitee which has Bernie's pride out of kilter. bernie is 37 soon to be 38 years old and in any sport that's a ripe old age. Hes been a staple of Yankee fans for 16 years and it would be nice to see him make 17 but not on his terms.

Bernie just doesn't fit anymore. I think he can still play, but he would be an expensive bench player for the Yankees to carry.

They're not. They just don't have room for him. Cashman's job is to put the best possible team on the field. Although he has made some questionable decisions on that...this is the best team he thinks he can put on the field. I love Bernie. I'd love to see him stay. But players get older, they slow down and eventually they leave. It's nature. Tell him to come to spring training and prove to everyone that he still kicks butt.

Torre wants him to come to camp. The Yankees need Williams in case of injuries.

He's old and washed up... besides, NY cheats and would sign GOD if he was available and they could. They need to be capped.

They are not sure if he can continue to produce. They want him to prove he can play another year.
