I plan on buying a Toshiba laptop tomorrow and it has wireless internet built into it. What else will I need to connect to the internet? I plan on taking this laptop w/me to work and using it at home without using the internet service at work or home. Most websites at my work are blocked - reason for laptop :) and my parents have their own computer w/internet access.

You will first net internet service. I am guessing you live with your parents since you mentioned they have the net. OK so then you need a wireless router. Linksys makes a good one you can get it for round $50 at Walmart. You hook your cable modem or DSL into the router. Turn on your laptop and it should detect the presence of a wireless network. Windows will walk you through the set up and if you have probs consult the Linksys website. The router can also be plugged directly into comps with some cat 5 wire. So your parents won't have to have a wireless card for their comp unless the modem and router are too far away from the comp to run cat 5. As for work I don't know what you should do. Unless they are running a wireless network too you will have no hope of getting online there. And even if they are wireless you most likely will have to have a network key in order to get on. I doubt they will give you that so you can use your lappy to surf the net at work. lol Hope this helps.

maximum if no longer all new laptops have WIFI receivers geared up in. Do you have already got a router at domicile? If no longer you will ought to get one and an information superhighway connection. extremely some agencies provide routers with their information superhighway provider. that's going to already be superb to apply on the information superhighway, you purely choose an information superhighway connection to connect with. If no longer, you are able to attempt cellular information superhighway. Get a dongle and sim card and you need to use the information superhighway anyplace you're.

does your work have wireless? if so you might have to ask someone maybe an IT guy if you need a password and if there is software you will need to download to get on their network. at home, with mine i needed to run the cd that came with the modem(your parents should have this) this should load the software needed.
