It is almost two years and they continue to receive
FEMA (Tax-Payer) money and support.
When will enough, be enough?
Let private charities support them, if they wish.

Other storm victims of equally devistating storms,
have worked to restore their lives and owned
(not rented) property. Many with no government
hand-outs.

Are they entitled to total support by the government?
Are you entitled to total support by the government?

The government tried to after a year and a half, but the thought of actual work caused such an outroar the government told them to keep giving the people money. Yeah, this place was devastated and yeah, most people lost everything, but guess what? . Stuff like that happens everyday. And what do those people do? They deal with it. They start over and begin their life again. For their families, their responsibilities, they take a huge knock on the chin and keep on smiling and pretending everything is okay while they deal with it.

How many of these people are still in hotel rooms still refusing to find jobs? And, yes, refusing because if they even halfway looked, they could find something. It might not be exactly where they wanted, but it would be a job. They would be making income and would be eventually be able to feed their family without the government's help. Why aren't they looking for jobs? The town I live in is really considered a village, and yet I know of three jobs open. Wow, that means that three people could work. Or, what about the unemployment agencies that post most jobs in and around an area or websites like monster.com. So, there is no excuse for them to not have a job by now. And after two years, you would think they would at least begun to move on instead of continuing to be a drain on the economy. I mean, come on, it's been two years. TWO. There is no excuse for them not to at least have a job. NONE

And for those who think I'm harsh. Let me tell you something. I stopped feeling sorry for them a long time ago. Some contributing factors: 1) when Geraldo was interviewing a 70 year old man he was smiling at the camera and proud to say he had never worked a day in his life, 2) the folks down the road from did a very Christian thing and took in one of these families who lost everything. They came home from work one day and all of their stuff was gone, as was the family they took in, 3) one of my friends was almost raped by one of these 'poor' people.

That whole area was devastated, ..the homes, the businesses, the schools, the hospitals, the infrastructure, everything, and each problem compounds the others making recovery hard to do. The real question is when will people who CAN work, in areas all over America that have NOT been affected by disasters be taken off the gravy train??? As long as politicians, mainly Democrats, promise handouts of some form in return for votes it will always be that way.

Because its FREE. Almost every person has a good reason to ask for help, even now. But at the same time some folks find it easier to hold out the hand....for a hand out. I'd bet most were jobless to begin with, NO INCOME at all. These folks are a problem that will never go away. They did'nt work, they did'nt even vote. They should be made to work for any income Uncle Sam is providing, and pay taxes. Oh well.........

You should go down to New Orleans, Mississippi, etc through out the south where Katrina came through and caused the devastation and contribute some of your time and energy in the effort to rebuild. Then perhaps you can make an informed statement. And not such a judgmentally filled with innuendo question but one based on fact instead of ignorance. Witness first hand and experience what people are still dealing with on a daily basis. Who are you to judge, find something positive to put your energy into, besides hate. Hate will destroy your very soul. God bless****

Obviously you have never experienced the total devastation that Katrina victims suffered. This isn't a case of a blown apart house or a few knocked over trees. Total flooding of most of the city and poor people lost everything and don't have the resources to "start over". It's easy to criticize when you haven't had to deal with it. There are Floridians who are also still working with FEMA trying to get over the damage from the hurricanes of -03! If you want to comment about how long recovery is taking then encompass ALL recipient cities NOT just Katrina victims.

besides the undeniable fact that welfare varies from state to state, the Welfare Reform bill that President Clinton signed into regulation continues to be in stress, and there are lifetime caps on the insurance someone is authorized. you would prefer to bypass again in time and evaluate the provisions set forth in his (President Clinton's) Welfare Reform Act, which he negotiated with Gingrich-led actual-wing Republicans, letting the GOP have some austere (almost cruel) measures they needed. i grow to be no longer in want of this Welfare Reform bill---i presumed it grow to be advise to three very susceptible people, besides the undeniable fact that the solid elements coated new practise for jobs skills, practise with babysitting if the welfare recipient chosen to attend college or paintings, and help in looking higher-paying jobs.

What is wrong with people getting help if they need it. You are not paying all of it yourself. There are a couple of more tax payers out here. I don't complain, and I haven't heard any one else complaining.

Well how about you go and tell them that? Instead of whining about it here. Go and tell a person who has lost everything, that we are done taking care of them that we have better things to do now. Or just say we don't care about our American people anymore is that what you're saying?

It's not a Black or White question.
It's a nonsense question.
When you suffer some, you will develop more compassion.
You may have some hard Karma coming your way.
Good luck.

I dunno....Myself along with 2 million of my White brothers and sisters have lost their homes because of our jobs going overseas and nobody has given us a handout. I guess it's a Black thing so we have to help the poor unfortunates that are unable to work or do anything other than sit around and smoke crack. Please have pity for these folks that need to have a law that will force companies to hire them rather than hiring a White person that is 10 times more qualified. You don't get mad at 1 year olds for shi*ing their pants, don't get made at these folks cause they can't support themselves. What are you, some kind of a racist!
