Does anyone own a Panerai watch?

If you do how do they fare? Are they really worth the thousands that they go for? What do you like most about them? Thanks

They are worth every penny.. for one --- you never need to replace one.

here's the short version of why..

1. they all have a sapphire crystal (means the face will never scratch so you'll always clearly be able to see what time it is)
2. there are no platings on these timepieces - (means that no matter how you scratch the watch the metal will never change color, steel stays steel and gold stays gold
3. hand-made - just about everything is hand made, hand placed, and hand assembled, its this personal touch that makes a watch the most intimate piece of jewelry a man can own
4. automatic movements - (no battery required) the entire movement (motor assembly) is hand made as well, it utilizes gemstones that are carefully placed to hold gears in place against tremendous pressure that is created from the non-stop winding and unwinding of internal parts
5. deployment style clasps - allow a perfect fit, with the buckle laying directly in the middle of your wrist for perfect comfort as well
6. top notch stitching and superior leathers
7. did i mention hand-made?
8. special complications - meaning they do more than just keep simple time - you can have split time zones, chronographs (stopwatch style timekeeping), split chrono (rattrapante - means measuring two events at once), tachymeter - speed synchronization for checking accuracy ... and so many other neat features....... the fact that they keep time is almost secondary.

each one is like a work of art.

as for what i like the most about them i would have to say that i feel as if each one has a personality of its own.

you really have to respect that this is a handmade device that probably goes thru a bunch of torture yet still keeps accurate time with such intricate little pieces.
