He's done both cereals now, rice for about a month, and oatmeal now for a week. No reactions from either, do you recommend vegis or fruits first, and which ones?

Pears. Easily digested, very yummy when cooked and pureed (I use just a bit of water and then keep it in when I puree). If you do veggies, don't do carrots or dark greens yet (risk of too many nitrates). 5 months is still pretty young, so no need to add too many things just yet. Peas. Yams. Try mixing the pears with the cereal. I think the 'don't do fruits first' thing is a bit of a myth. Just keep is simple for now.

Try veggies first and then wait a couple of days and then try a fruit. Switch back and forth between the 2. Mix them into the cereal, my kids loved it that way when they were babies. Also when it comes to veggies try most of the green ones first. They are usually leased liked and this way they can get used to them before developing a taste for the others.

be sure that when you start the fruits or veggies that you still give the baby the cereal my doc said that they have to have at least 2 table spoons a day we put the apples right net to the cereal then dip it in cereal then in apples then give it to baby that's how the doctor said to do it because when you just mix it the baby don't like the taste as well . you want to start with squash, apples, pears, peaches, carrots, and sweet potato's first only the 1st foods then the other 1st foods can come but be sure to talk to your pediatrician before starting anything new. also be sure when you start a new food to give it a week before you start another new food that way you can see if the baby has allergies. try to start with a veggie i would say carrots because we started with apples first and we have trouble getting him to eat his veggies now. good luck don't give the green ones yet they are to be last of the 1st foods also the doc said that they have a bigger chance with alleges our son still cant eat them because he pukes when he dose.

I started yellow veggies, then orange, then green....then moved on to fruits. My DD didn't really like fruits at first, she preferred veggies, so it actually worked out well for us. And I continued cereal everyday.

I have a 4 month old son and his pediatrician told me to start him on veggies first then fruits because fruits are sweeter and if you start them on fruits first then they may not want to eat the veggies because they are sweet like the fruit.

Definitely start on veggies. If you start on fruits, they might not like the veggies because they get used to the sweetness of the fruits. My daughter's favorite is sweet potatoes.

A little fruit stirred into the cereal will add to his appreciation of it.
