I own a transmission shop, and your problem is simple. Put some fluid in it. It must be low, and when its cold it doesn't pick up any fluid until it heats up enough to expand the fluid.
If this does not resolve the problem, take it to a transmission shop, or dealer who can determine the problem. The modern day transmissions are loaded with things it can be, and the parameters must be scanned with a computer/controller to determine what it is doing at the time the fault happens. This is called snap-shot scanning. What it does is; takes a picture of the parameters when the fault happens, and stores these until a technician retrieves them. Sometimes this is the only way to tell what took place when the fault took place. Most all else is guessing at it. It could be this, and it could be that, but how to tell what it really is, takes a person trained in getting this information. They have the software, and hook a laptop computer to your ADL and monitor all systems before, during, and after the failure. With any intermittent problem, there is no way to guess at it, and fix it, without doing this.
Glad to help out, Good luck!!!

It's a 1994 and I would say high mileage correct? I would start by having the transmission serviced by a reputable mechanic. One that is independent and will save you a good $30 to $40 rather than going to a dealer. You can have this done for less than $100 bucks, I had it done in a Camaro for about $70 dollars. If this does not work. Just have them check it out. A good mechanic will not charge you for this unless you want the work done. Use the Internet and do some research on your car before you go. Don't let them take advantage of you, take someone older and has some experience with repairs to back you up.

I hope that this helps you out.

sounds like a warm-up problem to me, check the fluid level,& color. if it's low, or bad( brown,or burnt) add, or have changed.
also could be wiring at the plug, (electrical).
GOOD LUCK!
P.S. check the tranny cooler lines.

Hmm, sounds something like you described, i would go with the basics first like make sure you have tranny fluid and stuff. then maybe take it to a garage to get it checked. sorry bro.
