Ok I got married Jan 20 i stopped taking my birth control at the end of December. I stopped then had my peroid for a week. I had to be on birth control since i was probably about 15 because i had irregular peroids. Well I have no had one yet but probably because i stopped. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate of how long birth control usually takes to wear off. My husband and I already have a daughter from his last marriage and she is 29 months we would really like to go ahead and start a bigger family!

Once you quit taking birth control, you are able to get pregnant. I had people tell me it takes a month or 6 months to get out of your system, but that is not true. My doctor said it is perfectly safe and possible to get pregnant right away. I also researched this question on WebMD and other sites and they all confirmed what my doctor said. However, keep in mind it can take the average couple 6 months to get pregnant and in some cases longer. If you have an irregular cycle it might take you a little longer. You can create an ovulation calendar on WebMD and learn to track when you are fertile. Other sites also offer these services. Best of luck to you both.

While it's technically possible for someone to become pregnant right after coming off of birth control, it's also not uncommon for cycles to be irregular for a while after stopping the use of birth control pills-for some people it can take as long as six months to establish regular cycles again. If you're concerned, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor or other health care provider, because he or she can also help you figure out if the lack of a period indicates the possibility of other fertilty problems.

BCP's wear off almost immediately. Even if you miss just a couple of days in a month, the chances of getting pregnant are higher. You may be getting your irregular periods back, but if you think you may be pregnant, it's best to take a test and know for sure. Good luck, I hope you are!

Birth control stops working in 24-48 hours, hence why you have to take it every day for it to work.

It actually depends on your body. IT can be the next month to get pregnant like with me. Or it can take years to become normal and get pregnant once off BC. Its different for every woman.

Good luck!
