think Blue tooth wireless like LAN (local home network - the one you see at home or small businesses using), but with much much shorter range. BT range is only upto 30ft (10m), saying 30ft is kinda far, but if you're out of 10 - 15ft range, the connection is getting worse and disconnect, therefore it has never been use as home network as LAN. On the other hand, LAN can have the range as far as 300ft (100m), same rule, 150 - 200ft, you'll get weak signal or even have nothing at all. The only time you'll get as far as 300ft is you're in an open room or outdoor, without any wall, ceiling, or anything that block the signal in between. Most LAN at home have the rang between 100 - 150ft, unless they use RangeBooster or Reapter, then you can have a little farther, but not much..maybe in low 200's.
So, what can BT do? well, your wireless printer can taking advantage of it (not much in the market though, but you'll see a lot of them have the capability to connect to LAN), your cell fone, of course, digital cameras (i bet you didn't know there are digital cams that has BT built-in), and many many more devices can taking advantages of BT connection :)
Hope this'll help,
Jon

Also, if you have the newest gaming system by Nintendo, the Wii; then BlueTooth can be used to connect the controllers to your computer and can be used with Scripts made in GlovePie. You can play drums, control your computer, play laser tag, etc.
It's just basically like a linux, only it's not an operating system, and it's fully built on wireless technology.

Bluetooth is an industrial specification for wireless personal area networks (PANs). Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices such as mobile phones, laptops, PCs, printers, digital cameras and video game consoles over a secure, globally unlicensed short-range radio frequency.

Bluetooth technology is used to connect two or more devices together. For example your PDA might connect to a mobile printer, and your Cellphone to you Earbud. You simply need 2 compatable devices and follow the directions from the main device.

It is essentially a shortwave radio inside a device that can transmit and receive encoded information.
The word Bluetooth actually refers to a set of design standards emphasizing low power use, relatively cheap equipment, and relatively short range.
In other words, its basically an information transmitting and receiving radio specifically designed to fit into handheld devices.
