Deamt account is one where the equity shares are held in dematerialized form. Previously we used to have physical share certificates which are now converted into demat form.

Several banks offer a De-Mat account which helps to de-materialise physical shares. It helps in buying and selling shares online.

It is like any bank account, wherein you deposit Shares of Stock. You credit / debit shares like you do money in normal SB/Current Account.

De-Mat account to de-materialise physical shares. Need only if your are in shares. If you have shares in old mode, you have to make them de-mat for sale etc.
