I don't get what you mean by they have to deserve it? My kids are still young but we buy them video games (wii/ds) and at first they'll be getting a basic kid phone but when they get a little older will get top of the line phones plus better game consoles. If my children are bad than they will get them taken away for a period of time but they will still get one for christmas/birthday as a present. We do this because its just how kids are these days. When most adults were younger they still got presents at christmas/birthdays even if they were not 100% good over the year but then get them taken away when you get into trouble. Thats all video games and phones are now just real expensive toys!
