Yes, the world as we know it will cease to exist; it will be the end of our current "Earth Age" and the start of a "New Earth Age". The Maya believed that 2012 marks the end of our current "Solar Epoch" or "Sun Age" and it marks the commencement of a "New Solar Epoch" or "New Sun Age".

The precipitating agent that will trigger this is the Sirius Binary Stellar System, called "The Dragon", it is also the "Great Dog Star" that Nostradamus said would howl for 7 days. It turns out that our Solar System is on a collision course with Sirius. This is the "Great Mystery of the Ages" that even modern scientists have no knowledge about. They think the Earth's global warming is caused by greenhouse gases, the burning of fossil fuels and pollution by man, but they are wrong. These environmental degradations are caused by the electromagnetic stellar arcing between the star Sirius A and our Sun. As the two systems approach ever closer the effects will become more radical. This is why the arctic poles on Mars are even melting; for this phenomenon is affecting everything in our whole system.

What is coming is an extinction level event that will wipe our entire global technoculture off the face of the Earth. Nothing but a handful of post-catastrophic survivors will remain to undertake the Herculean task of "recivilization" all over again, which will require another 12,000 years before ever reaching the technological status that we enjoy today.

Sirius B will pass by the Earth first causing a 45 degree pole shift. Cities like New York will be thrust towards the North Pole and become frozen wastelands. Great and horrific earthquakes worldwide will be a daily occurrence reducing all cities to rubble. Next, Sirius A will pass between the Earth and the Sun. The mean surface temperature of the Earth is considered to be 59 degrees; this will escalate to 5,300 degrees, because Sirius A is 2.24 solar masses larger than our Sun and at the half way distance will be equal to 80 of our Suns in the sky. All flesh of people and animals will "flash-fry", and the fish in the sea will boil to a poached level. All materials on the surface of the Earth will spontaneously combust, including all world forests and cities. All metals will melt, including vehicles. The passing of Sirius A will cause our Sun to turn upside-down for both stars possess opposite polarities, and this will cause all the planets in our Solar System, including the Earth, to turn upside-down. The oceans will displace out of their basins and overrun the continents burying whole nations beneath a layer of 2-mile thick alluvium soil. The Earth may even be catapulted out of its orbit causing the arctic Polar Regions to wander freezing everything that enters their pathway. As the two solar system pass through each other in this Great Transversion, it is very much like two bubbles passing through each other, this will cause all the debris in the debris belts of each system to dislodge and rain down a torrential downpour of mass celestial bombardment; everything will be destroyed. The debris belts in our system are the Oort belt, Kuilper belt and the Asteroid Belt.

The horrible judgments against the maturation of evil upon the Earth and against corrupt Man whose pride assails the very Throne of God at the end of our age and described in the Book of Revelation in the Bible will actually be produced by this cosmocataclysmic event, the burning of the Earth, the boiling of the seas, the great earthquakes, the 100 pound asteroids of mass celestial bombardment, the leveling of every mountain, and the sweeping away of all the islands.

Afterwards, a New Age will begin, and knowledge of our existence will be wiped away and forgotten, becoming a vague myth of a former "Golden Age".

It will mark the end of an era. Most likely the end of a religious era which could be the Christian era since we are now with the last One of all the Popes, according to the prediction of Malaquit who was one of the first Pope himself about 2,000 years ago.
At the time it was the era of Pisces, the Fish, which was the symbol of the first Christians. There is a new era on the astronomic calendar of the sky approximately every 2,000 or so years. The whole World is entering the new era of Aquarius for 2,000 more years. Mayans knew it as well. When it's the end of one world it is the beginning of another. To be precise we still have about 100 years to go to enter Aquarius. I think 2.012 could be as accurate as 2.100.
What I believe will happen is that we are leaving the very gloomy waters of the numerous fishes and that we will be elevating to the pure blue sky and cleanliness of the atomic era for peaceful purposes. It is possible that peaceful ladies will take over the bloody warriors and that it would become a beautiful unisex era with the help of homosexuals. It already starting don't you think ? Smile, there is hope ahead.

I don't think the world will physically end in 2012. But I do think that year will mark a change to the world as we know it. What with the way things are going now with all the wars, global warming, etc. it could prove the start of a new and worse/better era. We'll have to see.

The Mayans did not say the world is going to end in 2012. It is just the end of their calendar. However they do believe on or about December 21st -23rd something spectacular will happen in the cosmos and it will be reflected on what happens to humans on earth. could be the end of the world, could be that we unlock the 4th dimension....we won't know until 2012.

It is possible...the way the world is going now. I think a possible cataclysm will probably happen. What people seem to forget is that the Mayan calendar is cyclical and cannot be measured by our linear standards. We are a linear society and we tend to think in start, finish, and ending patterns. The Mayans and Egyptians were way ahead of their times. There is a theory about the measurements of the pyramids of "Giza" and the significance of 2012. Both advanced civilizations, thousands of years ago providing similar results is kinda scary. Especially, when the Atlantic ocean and thousands of miles separated them.

My recommendation is to live each day to its fullest because the world ends everyday for someone who dies.

No, because there are many years that were prophesized to be the end of the world, but nothing happened. 1999 was what Nostradamus said, 2000 was what the scientists said, 6/6/06 is what the Bible code said (if you believe the Bible code), and the Mayans said 2012. Well, so far, 3 out of 4 were duds, so not really counting on the last one. :P

they Myans did not predice the end of the world in 2012.

the Myans believed that everything ran in cycles, and that dec 23 2012 was simply the end of the current cycle. they did not make a calendae for any date after that simply for the same reason that we do not make a calendar for any date after the current year. it is just not needed.

2012 may likely bring some changes, but it is not and has not been predicted as the end of the world. the end of the world is a Christian belief. most other religions see great changes but no end. When people of limited knowlege in the Christian faith see any other culture that shows an end to time or a seeming end to a time frame thay assume that it is a predicted end of the world.

When mankind blows itself up with our great nuclear weapons!!No, I don't think there's any known date... People have always thought it would be in their lifetime, even in the New Testament... If people would just live their lives as if today were the day, maybe we would all get along.. It's wrong , I believe, to be separatists and think they are the one and only, to survive out of 40 Billion+ people in the world

From what I understand of Mayan Prophecy, the Mayans do not believe the world is going to end on 2012. Only their calendar will end on that date. On the other hand, They do expect great loss of life due to a uniquely hazardous position our solar system will enter in, at that time. If it ends, it will be by mans hand and it will be his end. I believe that the Mayans prophecy will be accurate, because they have already started to happen and can be scientifically verified. The following is what I understand about the Mayan people and their prophecies for 2012.

The Mayan Indians regard their beliefs as both a science and a religion. Their discoveries are not done in a lab but rather by tapping into the cosmos via the mind. Through the extensive use of meditation, they are able to discover and track planetary movements as well as space anomalies such as black holes. They used this information to construct a calendar so accurate that no present day calendar can rival its accuracy. They also use this information to predict future events.

According to some Mayans, this date marks the end of the long count of their calendar; Set to end on a winter solstice (12-21-12). On this date, our Solar system will be center aligned , in the Milky Way, ninety degrees relative to the black hole, at its center. Our sun will be centered in a position called "The Tree of Life", as it does every 25,800 years. We exit the age of Pisces and enter the age of Aquarius.

In this position, unusually violent sun spot activity will cause a pole shift. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods will run ramped. Significant loss of life will occur. Earths magnetic field will temporarily collapse. Humans will be exposed to a cosmic energy that will facilitate enlightenment. In this state of higher consciousness, we will recognize that all matter, plant, animal, mineral are bound as one. This realization will mark the end of wars for a time. People will be able to connect to the essence of god (vibrating energy) like only the most enlightened can. We will have exited the forth dimension and entered the fifth dimension.

The date marks a goal to be reached. Evil forces will make every effort to keep humanity from reaching the date. These evil forces are those entrenched in the third dimension, in the Material world. They have no desire to leave this age and wish to continue exploiting and endangering all life for material gain.

Wars just prior to this date could be most devastating, with a loss of as much as 2/3 of our population anticipated. The resulting man made environmental damage could make life inhospitable for those who survive.

Humans have freewill, Man's future is not set yet, nor predictable:
STRIVE FOR PEACE

No, it will not end. But I believe that the Earth's magnetic fields will reverse. The Earth is long overdue for said reversal.
