I have a problem playing w/ computer games like world of warcraft and battlefield... I used to go to college but I stopped because I was playing diablo 2 at the time which was super addicting and got me lazy in school which led me to drop it.
Now I have this suped up computer where I can play about any game I want and I want to quit playing those waste of time games and get back to school to do something.
I have this idea to stop playing games by giving away my awesome computer and buy a very crappy one so I would be uncapable of playing games. With the nongaming one I could just surf the net.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

If you can't set limits to how much time you spend playing video games, than you shouldn't play them at all. I think, if it were me, I would set a timer before I even started, giving myself a reasonable amount of time to play, say an hour, and then when the time went off, I would save my game and quit for the day. If I was unable to turn off the game when the timer went off, then I would get rid of the games, the computer, whatever it took to be more productive. You also have to decide for yourself what is the MOST important thing to you. Obviously, you aren't going to be able to have a successful life spending all of your time playing video games, so when you are tempted to zone out and play video games when you shouldn't, you need to ask yourself what is most important to you...a game, or your future? Set some new goals that you can achieve. Just taking away the negative, and not replacing it with something that is positive is just going to leave a hole in your life that you are going to want to fill with something else. Fill that hole with something good. Find something you are good at, that you can be successful with, and spend your time doing that. Find some other hobbies that are enjoyable and that don't consume your life.

Im almost the same way. I play 90% of my time away and i barely get my work done last minute. even if you dont have a computer youll find ways to waste time, so really it just takes alot of self control and perserverence. I almost failed high school then i had to kick my butt into gear and actually start doing stuff. just think, your not getting anywhere playing video games, they may be fun now, but in 5-10 years when your living on your own, you cant play video games unless you can pay your own bills too, and that requires a job. its hard to quit, i know, but just think about the money youll be making once you get out of school with your degree.

Remove the games from your system/Unistall them.
You don't have an addiction, you have made a choice.
Change the choice by changing the behavior.
Calling it an addiction give you an excuse to indulge.
Be a mature person and distance yourself.
Get a friend or someone to be accountable to and let them know that you have gotten rid of the games and are quitting.
Finally, find another way to spend your time, like getting back in school and maybe changing your major to something more motivation and challenging.
I hope this works.

keep the computer but get rid of the games if they are on CD break the Cd's or give them to charity, if they are on the hard drive delete them. You should get back into college. You could take some sort of computer classes so you can put that computer to good use.

Perhaps you could enroll in a computer class for a semester. Give your games to a friend who will only let you have them when the weekend rolls around, or when you are COMPLETELY done with your studies.

it's simple. sell all your games. all of them. uninstall them all. You can even set up a netnanny sort of thing to keep you off games sites. whatever helps your focus.
