Planing. You must have an editorial calendar. It basically lays out what every month or week will be about for a year.

There are basically three 'legs' to a magazine..

1. Advertising - this is where your money comes from so you need to know your audience and get the right advertising to suit them.

2. Circulation - Manage you subscriber database. You need to be able to send out bills, renewals and get labels to your bindery.

3. Content and Design- What is your magazine about, make sure it is consitent and in demand.

If you are creating a magazine you need to have staff to handle all of these aspects. These would be your three basic divisions. You can also look up ABC Auditing. Audit Bureau of Circulations. This is the group that 'oversees' magazines live up to what they promise their advertisers.

There are lots of components to publishing a magazine.

Also check out binderies like RR Donnely.

It all depends on what kind of magazine you are making. If you are doing a fashion magazine you would need to do stories on what's in, what celebrities are wearing, accessories, different fashion designers, new trends in fashion
