Nobody can even name 3 people each in the National Team in these sports but we can even name 20 cricketers at a stretch

It certainly is and we all know that this is true. The main culprit for popularizing this so called 'physical sport' is television.
Which sports give you regular breaks to plug in advertising? Which game lasts a whole day or sometimes for days? Which sport played with a ball on an open field demands so little physical fitness?
For the print and the visual media, it's a dream game. They would not have been able to come up with a better alternative even if they had tried. It is a 'made for the media' game and I do not blame them for popularizing it.
We Indians have never had a sporting culture like Australia or China or USA. Cricket gives us an illusion of being one. We do not believe that 'Health is wealth', we believe 'Wealth is health'.
