My parents are in their 50s and still have not written their wills. I need to help them with this, but I have NO idea what is involved. Where should I start? Will we need to hire a lawyer? Is there any way we can do it cheaply or for free?

Thank you! :)

Most people do pay lawyers. it's not super expensive and they can ensure it's done right.

At the very least, they should write down who inherits all the things they can think of, and then they sign it and TWO WITNESSES sign it as well-- then put it in a safe place. This isn't as good as a lawyer written one, obviously, but in most cases will suffice.

Just write down what they want to do with their property, what to leave each child, and if there is any money involved they will have to write that down to. then they will have to appoint an administrator over their affairs. After you write it take it to a lawyer and let them type it up for you. It not really hard and I think that you can get this done for about $50-100.00 dollars.
