I think anti-Americanism transcends the boundaries of just the UK and touches much of the world.
It's sad that we always associate a globally unpopular governmental policy with that of the nation's own people. It's also a shame that so much propoganda from a given government also plays its part in ensuring most of its population go along with the stories that are always pumped out ... and often become such fervent nationalists! It doesn't help matters!!!
The Australians - I don't think - are exposed to as much propoganda and, as a people, are probably better equipped to make a judgement call that is a bit more reasonable.
We all wish for a bit more peace on this planet. And the Aussie government (as well as its populace) to me are a 'voice of reason' that can make a valuable contribution to the general scheme of things.
In this respect I think a closer tie with the USA and Australia can only be a good thing.

Look there is nothing wrong with Americans. And the Australians and Americans have something in common:the British hated both of us. So I'd say thats a possibility. But I think and hope that the British stay close. Even though we had to fight just to have our own religious freedom. Besides, Australia and America can only get a little closer. We are already great friends, whereas I think Americas friendship with the Brits will grow better. We still have China and Russia behind us as friends, and Australia is an ever-close ally. Remember, Britain dumped Australians carelessly off on an remote island instead of making them better citizens. And history books say every day Britain is becoming more and more closer to the US, like Mexico and Puerto Rico. Canada loves us. So does Russia.

No, the special relationship is between those in power, Bush and Howard, two leaders who refuse to let their country be forever changed by radical Islam.
The subjects of Australia are just as big of mindless robotic haters as any Commonwealth country.
Andy B: You're full of it and using trendy catch phrases, "We don't hate you, we hate your government". That's a load of bull and you know it. Be a man and admit it.

No, the Aussies won't be so close. They learn from the UKs mistakes, believe me! They are tougher and speak their minds more.
