I got a Compaq desktop with a built in video card

Now I am trying to install another video card, Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT, I plugged into the PCI slot and installed the driver for xp, but the screen became half black and half red when I connected the monitor with the new video card.

Then I went to the display property, and it says the current graphic display driver cannot be used since it was written for previous version of Windows. And it asks me to get a updated driver.

1. My computer is running Windows XP Media Certer Edition. Is it right to choose the driver for Windows 2000/XP while installing the driver?

2. Where can I find a update for the driver, is it possible the driver in the disc outdated? I just bought it yesterday! I tried the Nvidia web but cannot find any update for this driver.

3. In the device manager under display adaper, it says the item "Nvidia Geforce 6600" is working well, but why I can use it?

Now my concern is that the new graphic card cannot show anything. If I goto Bios and disable the default output, the screen will not show anything and then I will not be able to use the computer, since I cannot see the computer through the monitor. How can I change the bios back to default?

There is no AGP slot in my board, only one PCI slot is available. So it means that I need a PCI graphic card, right?

1) Take the card back out and put it back in. turn it on and see what it does.
2) If that doesnt work reinstall the video card software.
3) If that doesnt work, then download whatever current driver they have even if it is the same. The driver could be bad from the disk.
4) If that doesnt work then take your video card back and exchange it for a new one..
