The water in the bowl doesn't empty sometimes, it's completely random. Holding the flush lever down doesn't make a difference. Sometimes I'll walk into the bathroom and notice the water in the bowl has dropped dramatically. I dropped a bucker of 5 gallons of water into the bowl and it has no trouble going down. When flushing the toilet a giant bubble comes out of the drain before it starts to go down.

It sounds like you may have a vent blocked up. If the water is coming out of the tank alright and you can dump water down it, this is most likley the case. Does it ever gurgle when you use the plumbing fixtures around it? If it does this is exactly what is wrong. With the air bubble, I'm betting thats what it is. If it's really cold were you live the vent could just be blocked with ice, caused by moisture condensing and freezing in the vent.

Toilet Only Flushes Sometimes

It sounds like a problem with the flapper, the rubber trap door that opens to let water into the bowl form the tank. When you rotate the handle, an adjustable chain is supposed to lift the flapper, dumping water into the bowl. That causes the bowl to empty.

When the tank empties, the flapper is supposed to close. Water begins filling the tank until the float reaches the full level and shuts it off. The float may be a hollow sphere on a wire arm (old style), or a hollow plastic donut around a plastic shaft. In either case, it floats on top of the rising water, shutting it off when the tank is filled.

You don't say if this is an apt. or a house. You have negative pressure. You need a plumber. The problem is that the water in the drain is not evacuating properly. There is a blockage in the vent line, drain line, or there is no vent line. A pressure test will tell. You don't have the equipment. Call Bob the plumber. Sorry.

i did not imagine that no longer flushing grow to be a gender issue. from time to time people do not flush because they prefer to guard water. it is truly major throughout the time of a drought. some would keep in suggestions the rhyme: If that is yellow, enable it mellow. If that is brown, flush it down. bypass ahead and giggle, yet that rhyme grow to be popularized throughout the time of a drought in Northern California many years in the past, i trust. (i'd be incorrect; someone can maximum ideal me on the rhyme.) Edit: I do consider the different solutions about flushing each and every time the rest room is used, yet i in my view have not in any respect had the adventure you describe in my personal residence. If I did come across a targeted visitor did not flush, i'd be quite peeved. i do no longer care to envision what people left in the rest room. to respond to your question basically: that is gotta be a guy aspect.
