Would you go out in public with dirty torn cloths? What would people think of you? When you write something, without proper capitalization and spelling, you present yourself as either uneducated or you don't care how you look to other people.
It doesn't matter if you spell it color or colour, what does matter is that you take the time to think about clearly communicating your idea in proper form so the reader does not become distracted by the errors and focuses on those instead of the idea you are trying to present.
Push that Check Spelling button. That is what it is there for.

Wow, stupid people in here.
Words like favorite (favourite) are ambiguous no matter what country you're in. Just like theater (theatre). . .both variations are correct.
Now, ifyourtipingliktis without generally correct grammar, punctuation, or coherence, then yes you need to be picked on. These letters are a representation (extension to an extent) of yourself, and are usually an indicator of intellect and education level.
But if it's one word, or obviously a mistake, then someone needs to slit their wrists if they're that concerned about it.

Because if it ain't USA it must be wrong. Heaven help you, if you speak English, and not American.
You are on the internet and it reaches all parts of the world, and just because you read it in the USA doesn't mean that it was written there.

Because some people are born nitpickers. I've never known anyone yet who absolutely NEVER misspelled a word, but people sure get self-congratulatory and superior when they spot it in someone else.

It's okay, just ignore them. Sometimes it simply makes people feel superior to point out what they perceive are mistakes. It takes all kinds of personalities to make life interesting.

I understand, but it's an American prejudice. Euro-Americans have a tendency to believe that the world revolves around them.

Because you are in the USA and we spell it differently, so without knowing your country origin - we see you as spelling it incorrectly.
