My dad is dead, the only friend I had died a while ago, I'm slowly losing my sanity, (LITERALLY!!), and not only am I a manic depressive with schizophrenic personality traits, I have an abusive mother who thinks it's funny to laugh in my face.
Let alone I have no one to look up to and the only thing that I can absorb and learn is how I am treated. And the only time I ever get food is when I'm at school and it's lunch time. But guess how lucky I am?? We get a three day weekend!! I'm already f,ucking starving! Yay!
Also there is the fact that not only is this world going to hell, no one cares who you are as long as you are perfect or have money... and every time I try to even make a frickin' friend, I get picked on b/c I'm not picture perfect. So don't you dare take offense to this, but you have no right to ask me why I'm sad. You don't know me.

I think a lot of it has to do with Seasonal Affective Disorder (when people get depressed during the winter months). I personally suffer from that (along with many other things), but for most people on here, I think it's a combination of SAD and whatever is going on in their lives

People get addicted to the emotion of being sad.
For example, someone who is sad all day, every day, for 6 months straight, will have the tendancy to continue that emotion.
We as humans, have no control over our emotions. Don't believe me? Here is a good example. Someone does something that pisses you off like no other...try being happy. Or, a family member dies...try being happy right after that.
Thoughts are made up of neropeptides, and use the same receptor cells as heroine. So, basically, someone who is always sad, or always in a bad mood, is addicted to that certain chemical rush of emotion. Breaking that chemical rush that your body is use to, results in a chemical withdrawl.
Just like someone who was in love for years and years, and then gets dumped, or cheated on. They have a nervous breakdown, because they can no longer experience that specific chemical rush of neropeptides.
To learn more, watch the movie titled "What the bleep do we know"
It explains it perfectly.

Because alot of us are. I'm sad because the woman I love is so far away and I can't be with her right now. We may not see each other until the summer. That can make anyone sad. But I will always love her, no matter how far apart we are or when we finally get together.

Look at the state of the world! Genocide in Darfur, war in the Middle East, global warming, corrupt politicians, more and more species dying out, annihilation of our rain forests, the gap between the rich and the poor is growing...the list goes on.

Pull out a psychology book and get to know Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Then, apply those concepts to the globe of anyone's life and you will understand.
It is quite difficult to make lightness of one's life when basic needs aren't being met due to the state of our environment.
To dance merrily with joy is alot to expect when so many people are trying so hard just to survive.

I don't think everyone's sad, but I think some people who are lonely come here for comfort and companionship.

because of useless rules of society
because we all turned into slaves of money
because life has been too busy that we cannot even talk to each other
because we have lesser and lesser friends
because there are impossible standards that we have to do
because we have to choose practicality for creativity
because we are cowards
because we dont know the real meaning of love and what is love
because we constantly seek for the meaning of life, when there is a possibility that life has no meaning

Because Yahoo is sucking their energy right from their bodies and leaving them sad and depressed. That's why people can't stop coming to Yahoo! Answers because Yahoo makes them miserable if they don't come here.
