Generally opposites. The Republican party is against gay marriage and abortion. Claiming morality, I agree to a point. Democrats are for gay marriage and are more on the lines of supporting abortion options. The parties history is that of supporting civil rights and economic boosters. One of the newest issues is the influx of illegal immigrants from Mexico. I've heard so many varying facts on that topic that I don't know what to believe on the parties beliefs. Politics are screwy!

There is not a fits-all answer. There are many shades in-between. But from what I see, and you to if you're looking at the answers given in this forum, Republicans tend to be more independent requiring more from the individual. Democrats lean toward more government involvement or oversight because they believe there isn't a level playing field. There is a balance to both views. For instance, the rise of unions was good at first but corruption and political protection came so they are now losing their influence. You could go on and on with examples.
