I LOVE this question. In fact I caught a glimpse of it after answering another. I clicked a different link at about the same time, had to hit the back button to see if I was reading correctly.
Funny stuff ......... but if one honestly thinks about it they'll realize white people are on the verge of becoming the minority in this country. The months and holidays are slowly being integrated into the calendar (MLK birthday, BH month, Kwanzaa, etc.)
Next they'll hit up August, the only month without a holiday of any kind (wouldn't be a bad thing if it's a National non-working holiday but too many white people in Congress for that to pass just yet.)

Affirmative action. We MUST recognize all blacks for a whole month, regardless of their contribution, or lack of, to society as a whole. I personally believe it is definitely reverse discrimination. That is a very good question. If anyone deserves a whole month it should be Native Americans! They have been oppressed much more, but does oppression mean you should honor them with a month in the name of the culture? What about Jewish History Month? I believe we should honor individuals, not the race, or culture, as a whole. I do NOT think Martin L. King Jr. would have been happy with the way his movement has gone since his death. He was truly about equality, not "getting back at the evil white man".

Sinfonian said it better than I ever could. QUICK! Name the top 20 Americans you can think of from your history classes! Now--how many of them were white guys?
Could it be that the history books are showing a little preference to one particular race? BTW, this is *not* an accusation of racism. It's stating the fact that history has been written by the winners. So one tiny concession toward that are observances like Black History Month.

Why would we need a white history month, when European history as well as American history which is like 95% white history, is taught in schools 8 months out of the school year. Please don't be upset that blacks have one lousy month, in fact the shortest month in the whole yr, to learn a little bit about people other than Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I mean, what's the big deal. Woohoo we have one month to celebrate who we are, gosh we're just getting besides ourselves, old massa gon shol nuff be havin a fits if we love ourselves too much, i reckons we only should do it once a yr.
What next, should we go back to not being allowed to read or write, how about vote? I guess us blacks are getting to haughty to even think that we've contributed anything to history or to the world.
Do me and a favor get over yourself, I think that if a lot of white men did this the world wouldn't have so much hostility towards you.

I hope you really didn't want anybody to answer you seriously? Not every month is white history month.
White are treated with so much reverse discrimination it isn't funny, We don't need white history month and we don't need any cultures month. It's a "Here we are sorry for something that happened a LONG time ago to someone else."

Because we haven't gotten to "Asian History Month". Once we get through all the minority months, we'll think about it.
But seriously dude, can't we all just get along and have "American History Month"? Hmmm,... probably not,but I really liked the idea.
The whole thought behind "Black History Month" was to raise awareness to contributions to this great nation that were made by black Americans, to give them a feeling of equality. That doesn't make sense to me.
As an Asian, I hear things like "Oriental" girls are hot, and do you eat with chopsticks? I was born here, and the first few times I was noted as being Asian, I liked it because I was unique, but it gets old being identified as a race. Wanting equality to me means just wanting to be noticed as an American, and ho-hum I happen to be Asian.

Because it wouldn't be "politically correct". I agree with some of the others here.
We can't get rid of racism until we get past the issue of color. We won't be free of it until we can celebrate our accomplishments as human beings, not whites, blacks, asians, martians, whatever.
People, we have the chance to have history books of the future show our accomplishments as fellow human beings - not as a great black person, or a great white person. All great and not so great things are part of our history and what makes us who we are today.
The history books of the future will show many more diversified accomplishments - it can truly be a combined history, and maybe we can drop the race thing.

That is a good question, and I disagree with some of the answers people gave. I studied some black folks in my history classes in school, so that obviously wasn't white history... I think if black people think they need an entire month to make white people feel bad about themselves, shame on them. If we're going to study history, lets study history, and forget if its red or yellow, black or white. Ya dig?

i think of that purely approximately each trip or social gathering that we've, isnt being celebrated for what it grow to be initially meant besides. (like christmas) and in spite of the reality that i do tire of having to pay attention approximately black historic previous month each year, white historic previous month would be redundant through fact the story of the anglo saxons is already taught in faculties.
