I have an ant problem and would like to have a natural solution and am thinking perhaps there is another insect I could encourage to live on my property and eat the ants? It is illegal to have an anteater here.

preying mantis, earthworms, most insects eat other insects, but if you have a problem with ants it is beyond natural means, an anteater would be fun but there is probably a reason they are illegal (though i did not know that, i am aware that i cannot legally put a mule in my bathtub, though). You may have to resort to a less eco-friendly solution....horned toads eat ants, turtles and frogs and toads...back in the day when i was a hippy i knew another hippy that ate ants, he was really kind of burnt-out though, i don't think he'd have made a good garden gnome anyway, (though he wasn't much use for anything else)

they could pass for the ants & termites because there are one of those number of of all of them in a unmarried position - there is continuously a benefit/loss ratio keen about nutrition-searching, as in : is the prey merchandise nicely well worth the skill used to pursue/seize/discover the prey ? an entire coloney of ants/termites, with more desirable popping out each and every of the time can make for an particularly helpful pit provide up. If different insects modern themselves, whats up, why no longer? in case you imagine about it, although, anteaters have negative eyesight, strong claws, and are not very speedy - sturdy at ripping open a mound, no longer so sturdy at seeing or catching speedy little critters. ;-)

i know where i live there is a type of phorid fly, which lays its eggs in between the leg and body of an ant, and then the larva eats its way through the ant.

Crickets eat ants but they can also be destructive. Scorpions eat them too but ick. I use sweet and low. They take it down into their nests and eat it and die.
