No, a modem connect to a phone line and a wireless connect to a router that connected to cable or DSL.
If, your laptop have an internal wireless card then you need a router.

I not say buy this one, just show what you need. Pictures below main pic show the back. You can plug a computer direct also it have where the Cable Internet connect.

No, the 56k v.92 modem has to be physically connected to a phone line. It is not wireless. If your laptop has no wireless built in, you'll need a pcmcia or usb wireless adapter.
