My husband works at a very smelly job. He comes home and the odor is in his clothes, on his skin and in his pores. After 2 or 3 hot showers and 1/2 a bottle of soaps and scrubs, the smell is just about gone - but his skin is raw.

Any suggestions about any products which might help?

Does he work with chemicals? It could be getting absorbed by his body and that's why the smell won't go away.

I'm really sensitive to chemicals and smells, so periodically I go to a sauna or sit in a hot bath while drinking hot tea. Basically just sweating hard for awhile really helps me to feel better.

I've also heard that glycerin soap is the only soap that gets all the toxins off of your body.

You got a good answer from Jessica and I will add a few other points. When he takes a vacation (or in the weekend), does he feel better? If so, there is nothing wrong with him (as is suggested by some answers) and the problem is with the environment where he is working. Some chemicals are difficult to get rid of.

If the substance is not actually poisonous, it may be better to just mask the smell by other smells instead of trying to wash it off and thus ending up with skin damage. A hot shower or a steam bath may help by inducing sweating and removing most of the aromatic offending chemical to go out. Then a little soap will do. The skin will not get so much irritation.

Best wishes.

I have two suggestions.

One, have you tried looking at the soaps that mechanics use after working on vehicles? My dad has used the orange smelling stuff to clean his hands after hours working on the engine, and it cleans his hands right up.

Two, perhaps he should try a bubble bath. Don't laugh. You could go somwhere like bed bath and beyond and get a soap he likes the smell of and let him soak in it for a while instead of just taking the shower.

Then take a hot shower to rinse any residue off.

Hope you find a solution soon!

Um....It could be something medically wrong with him, because when you shower and it doesn't go away, then there is something wrong.

I watched this medical mystery thing, where this lady smelled like rotting fish, and it was some disease/vitamin deficiency that was causing the horrid smell.

i would maybe buy some odor ban and have him spray it on his clothing periodically. That's all I got for that. I would maybe go to a dermatologist and ask them, or your family doctor. sorry. I hope it gets better.
