I did go under the knife when I was three so I can`t say I was afraid of anything since I didn`t quite understand what was happening. Now, if I would have to have surgery again, I think I would be more terrified of the procedure itself than the concequences. However, most people do wake up and actually get better so that is reassuring.

I've been "under the knife" five times in the last two years and each time I was afraid not waking up.

Just a little bit. It's not even like I had major surgury-I just got put to sleep so they could do something in my mouth when I was younger, but I was so freaked out that I wouldn't wake up. That's one of my incentives for NOT getting plastic surgury ever; before hand I'd have to deal with those thoughts of not waking up...and that'd freak me out.

I have gone under the knife once and I thought about it but fell sleep to soon to think about it some more.

I think everyone does, since the doctors make you sign those papers it makes it feel even scarier. I have had eight surgeries and never had a problem waking up. You'll be alright.

I haven't been "under the knife" - but it would depend on the reason/type of surgery.

Yes. There is always that chance and I am even more afraid because I have seen it happen to people for absolutely no explainable reason except that it was their time to go.

Yeah, but I think I'd be more afraid of waking up during the surgery.

Not really, cant think of a better way to go than in your sleep. Nothing to fear, if it is your time, its your time!
