He booted it up and the xp boot screen said the name of the version (which is only when you have sp1, with sp2 it just says windows xp) and i found it kind of funny. he told me they dont have any kind of internet at all so he couldnt download sp2 cause its like 60mb.no internet at all is hard for me to believe since i have 5 pcs all networked on a 6MB+ internet connection.

There isn't a great need to upgrade to XP sp2 unless you are connected to the internet as most of the enhanced features are internet security related. I believe that the majority of users who have net connections would have upgraded by now unless there is a specific need to stay at SP1 (compatibility issues with software which happens where I work).

If you want install SP2 on his pc you can download it in a package to deploy on pcs with no internet connection.

You should be able to download it from Microsoft and burn it on a CD for him. The download site is at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx
