RUSH.
Didn't even hesitate for a second. Can you think of any other band where each member has mastered his instrument as well as Geddy Lee mastered the bass/keyboards, Alex Lifeson (well, sort of) the guitar, and ESPECIALLY Neil Peart on the drums?

Rush hands down. I`ve seen them 3 times and Neil Peart is one of the best drummers around.

Naw...I'd say the original Grand Funk Railroad....Cream was influential....Rush too good for their own good not to mention boring...Grand Funk Railroad was somewhere in between for a while....they at least didn't just stand there & play....they rocked & gave you a good show where you asked yourself "What just happened....WOW!!"

It's tough to say the greatest, since my preferences are different than someone else, but I would say (as far as influence and longevity): Jimi Hendrix Experience
It's tough to ignore the Police, but they are not in the same league as Jimi or Cream.

A three-way tie: Rush, Cream and The Police.
I consider the Jimi Hendrix Experience to be a one-man show. And, please, I wouldn't even give honorable mention to Nirvana and Green Day.

Cream gets my vote. It's not rock but I wanted to mention Green Day for musical integrity and sticking together..
