indeed they did. it was a combination of basketball and soccer...you had to kick the balls into a basketball-esque type goal. this sport was huge in the days of the mayans...kinda like today's world cup. also, the losing team was sacrificed to the gods. it was an honor to lose...well, kind of.

Not really a type of basketball, because of how different the rules were (nobody today plays basketball in a ritual religious setting, with the lives of human sacrifices hanging in the balance.. at least I don't think they do), but a type of ball game nonetheless. Pretty fascinating stuff.
