There are several reasons, all of them bad!

1) Relgious: Jews and Muslims are circumcised as a religious ritual. This goes back thousands of years and has no current meaning. Many religious parents in these faiths now refuse to have their sons mutilated in an outmoded religious rite.

2) Because it was done to them. Men who were cut at birth think it is normal to do the same thing to their sons. Ugh! They should not be comparing penises with their sons, so there is no reason a man who had this done to him has to do it to his sons.

3) Peer pressure: "Everybody does it." In the USA this once was true, but it isn't anymore.

4) Fashion. There is a tendency for very young girls to prefer mutilated penises. But then the boy becomes a man, and he finds out that WOMEN prefer uncut men, and he is stuck with the look preferred by young teens. In fact women with experience prefer uncut men by about 10 to 1. http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html

A man who respects his body would never do this.

Most guys in the world are uncircumcised.

The United States is the only industrialized nation to do it. The rates have been doing down significantly, though. They were well into the 80s percent a few decades ago, and are now about 55% nationwide. (it varies by region; the West coast has it at about 30%, for example). If you have a foreskin you only have to take a few more seconds to slide it back and wash, which isn't really a hassle or anything. No medical organization encourages circumcision. If left uncircumcised the owner of the body can always have it done if he wishes; so he'll end up satisfied in the end no matter what.

Most don't, since typically circumcision is chosen by the parents. There are no good medical reasons to circumcise; both the American Medical Association and the American Pediatric Association have stated that routine circumcision is unnecessary; and currently about 65% of American newborns are circumcised.

Depends on which country. In the US, parents are given a form before delivery and usually if they do not check off to NOT have circumcision done, it will be done and the hospital will be able to charge a fee - the whole point is to charge fees (like banks), more profit.

Obviously it is a well-known Jewish custom which is religious in nature.

Other than that, they could just believe that women prefer it or it makes keeping it clean easier (which is true if you are just too lazy to roll back the foreskin - especially as a child)

Some parents choose to have it done to their children, since their parents had it done to them....and it goes back for a long time. Also, due to religion. Jewish people get it done *don't hold me to it* I'm pretty sure that it is that religious group. Also, if it becomes a problem later on down the road, they get it done, or personal desire. I heard if you get it done later in life, after puberty, you get nerve damage.

Circumcision reduces risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) during the first year of life and possibly a reduced risk of sexually transmitted diseases during adulthood.

Because our parents choose to when we are babies. Or as they get older, they think its easier to clean, and it looks better. Its really their choice.
