5(x-2)-4x=(x-6)+2
5x-10-4x=x-6+2
x-10=x-4
x-x=-4+10
0=6
there is no value of x that will make this statment true. You probly typed it wrong. either that or the teacher wants you to be able to say when there is no answer.

All brackets mean are multiplying whats inside by whats on the LEFT of the bracket. If there isnt anything on the left just take away the brackets. I shall be using * to mean "times or multiply"
5(x-2)-4x=(x-6)+2
5*x 5*-2 -4x = x- 6 + 2
5x -10 - 4x = x -6 + 2
Now you can just take "x"s to one side and numbers to another; remember that they change signs if they cross the =sign.
5x -10 - 4x = x -6 + 2
5x - 4x - x = -6 + 2 + 10
0x = 6
SO THIS NOTHING CAN EQUAL THIS. I reckon you copied the question wrong! ~ there may have been another number before (x-6)!!!

5(x-2) - 4x = (x-6) + 2
the 5(..) means to distribute the 5
5x - 10 - 4x = (x-6) + 2
the (x-6) in parenthesis doesn't mean anything because you aren't multiplying, like with the 5(...), so you can just ignore the parenthesis
5x - 10 - 4x = x-6 + 2
now combine the terms
x-10 = x -4
x-x = -4 + 10
0 = 6
this means that there is no solution

5(x-2)-4x=(x-6)+2
5x - 10 - 4x = x - 6 +2
on each side combine like terms
x - 10 = x - 4
10 = -4
untrue
you wrote the problem wrong
