At the very end of Return of the Jedi, there are 3 figures shown in that ghostly glowing type thing and Luke turns and smiles at them... they are Anakin Skywalker, Yoda and some old bald dude, I assume it's supposed to be Obi-Wan, but in any case, my heart stopped after seeing this because the Anakin figure looked JUST LIKE Hayden Christensen... In the film credits, it lists "Sebastian Shaw" as Anakin Skywalker, but it looks too much like Hayden... Did the filmmakers digitally edit that final scene to include Hayden?? We saw several photos online that differ from that in the movie scene, one included an older bald guy in Anakin's place...I'm confused.

I clearly remember what Anakin looked like in the original release of Return of the Jedi and he didn't look anything like Christensen. He was played by a frumpy middle-aged looking guy who also played Darth Vader when with his helmet off when he spoke to Luke before he died.
George Lucus redid all of the first 3 films in the nineties with digital special effects replacing the tracked miniatures, but that was long before he cast Episode 1. Possibly he's replaced that actor with Christensen in the end "spirit" shot for a more recent video release. It sounds like what George would do.

Oh yeah it was. This is the subject of many debates and blogs still, but my husband looked into it and found just what you were talking about. Originally it WAS the old man Anakin as a ghost, and I guess they thought it made sense to return him to his "good" version as a good spirit rather than leave it alone. Why? Maybe they thought someone would watch the movies 1 thru 6 in that order and NEED the change to not be confused?

Not my place to say. All I know is that while some edits were nice enhancements, they really messed with my original perception and experience of the movies.
And it's just not nice to mess with one's childhood memories like that.
