AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

An HIV-positive person receives an AIDS diagnosis after developing one of the CDC-defined AIDS indicator illnesses. An HIV-positive person can also receive an AIDS diagnosis on the basis of certain blood tests (CD4 counts) and may not have experienced any serious illnesses. A positive HIV test does not mean that a person has AIDS. A diagnosis of AIDS is made by a physician according to the CDC AIDS Case Definition.

Over time, infection with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) can weaken the immune system to the point that the system has difficulty fighting off certain infections. These types of infections are known as opportunistic infections. Many of the infections that cause problems or that can be life-threatening for people with AIDS are usually controlled by a healthy immune system. The immune system of a person with AIDS has weakened to the point that medical intervention may be necessary to prevent or treat serious illness.

I just did a huge research for a UN model, in which I had to discuss about AIDS, I have tons of sites and stuff. AIDS is Acquired Inmunodeficiency Virus.

Here is a paper I wrote:
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, AIDS, is a worldwide problem that is little by little drowning the world. The immune system of people begins to fail, until they have to face death. I think that if this virus continues to spread, soon enough, the world will have no more option than to die; everyone will have AIDS.
There are many theories about the origin of AIDS among scientists. One says that in June 5, 1981 the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention found a cluster in five men in Los Angeles. The disease was believed to be a Gay-Related Immune Deficiency, GRID, but in 1983 in France, a French found the virus that causes AIDS. He named it LAV, but a year later a group of researchers of the U.S. confirmed the virus, and they named it HTLV-III, so the two countries agreed upon a new name, HIV. It’s believed that HIV comes from chimpanzees and that it was transmitted to humans during the twentieth century. This virus is generally transmitted through sexual intercourse, blood, and breast milk. The virus can reproduce very fast, once it’s inside your body. It reproduces among with cells, which move through all your body.
Being AIDS a worldwide problem, many people and organizations or countries are involved. Not just the people affected, also organizations as US Bureau of the Census, EuroHIV, US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Koch Institute, Health Canada, UNAIDS, and the World Health Organization. The US Bureau of the Census keeps track of statistics in general. EuroHIV is a European commission, which tries to control AIDS in Europe. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention helps control AIDS worldwide, leading with community, state, and international problems with prevention. The CDC gives treatment, care, and support to people with HIV. Robert Koch Institute operates mainly in Europe helping with features such as treatment. Health Canada, as the name says operates in Canada with national Health and this includes AIDS. The World Health Organization is a specialized area of the UN, which has quarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Its mission is “is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health.”
So why is AIDS a problem to the world today? First at this rate of spread, in 26 years, 2.4-3.3 millions of people have died, of which about 570, 000 were children. About 0.6% of the world’s population has AIDS. So at this rate in 167 years the world’s population will be all infested with HIV.
